Physical properties: white or slightly yellowish crystal or crystalline powder, odorless, sour; easily soluble in water, soluble in ethanol, insoluble in chloroform, ether and benzene. 1G is soluble in about 3 ml of water, 30 ml of ethanol, and 50 ml of absolute ethanol. It is stable in dry air, impure and many natural products can be oxidized by air and light, and its aqueous solution is quickly oxidized to dehydroascorbic acid. Alkali, iron and copper accelerate the reaction. It can form a stable metal salt, which is a relatively strong reducing agent, and the storage color becomes darker and darker to different degrees.
Uses: biochemical research. A reference reagent for the determination of arsenic, iron, phosphorus and iodine. Chromatographic reagents. Food antioxidants. Determination of barium, calcium, magnesium, titanium, molybdenum, tungsten and rhenium. Adrenaline assay.
